Too Many Stairs
Well, that was unexpected.
I woke up at 7 am this morning in a not unreasonable amount of pain. My Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL) was screaming at me. This was unexpected.
My legs have felt weak and sore before; it’s part of running ultramarathons, and I knew I’d be a bit tired after my first run back. But nope, I was not expecting to wake up in pain.
By 7.30 I realised there was no chance of me getting back to sleep. I lifted my leg out of bed, hobbled around, crawled upstairs and found some painkillers. As I limped around, my leg loosened up, and the pain began to ease. Part of me wondered what this might mean for my plans to run Japan, while the other part thought that at least I’d have something to film today.
Instead, I’ve mostly been tired and a little sore. I should have stretched last night, and I should probably get myself in gear and stretch today. But alas, it’s now dinnertime and I’ve spent most of the day hunched in front of a desk, catching up on work.
Instead, I crawled back to bed to watch Futurama and have a nap. A couple of hours later, I decided to film my hobbling, only to realise that I was significantly more mobile than I had been earlier in the morning. In fact, while I’m still a little wobbly, and stairs are most definitely the enemy, I’m mostly okay. The recovery is a relief as far as training goes, but it means I’ve missed out on an entertaining video for the day.
In the meantime, if you haven’t subscribed yet, I’ve set up a weekly newsletter:
Now it’s time for me to loosen my legs up with a little walk to the shops to pick myself up a beer. Then I’m going to sit down, relax and watch a movie. The lesson I’m taking from today is this: when I do something stupid, film it.
