First Run Back

Well, it’s the 1st of April, the launch day for ultramarathon.life, and to mark it, I thought I should go for a run. I’ve not run since September, so the only sensible thing to do was run around Hồ Tây.

It didn’t go too badly. My Garmin told me I ran 14.6 km, which is a respectable start—even if I’m going to have to run 3-4 times that each day in Japan. And that I ran an average pace of 6:25 /km which again is respectable given my lack of training.

Unfortunately, my average heart rate seems to have sat around 175 bpm. Which is too damn high!

This Heart Rate is Too Damn High

I’m happy though. This is the first run back, so I should expect to be slow and unfit. I realise that I probably want to add some speed-work into my running, as this old pair of legs don’t move as quickly as they used to, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be getting a bionic new pair any time soon.

The conditions for running were okay. It was only around 20-22 C, so not too hot. The AQI is around 140 today, which is not entirely healthy, but we’re in Hanoi so it is what it is. I suspect that the air quality will be the environmental condition which stops me running more than anything else while I am here.

I played around with filming my run, and here’s the result:

First run back though, a win for the day. Now I need to finish building this site and set up all the social media and bits.

Hey, ho.
