Getting Started

I’ve had the idea of filming my running for a while. I even bought a camera to try and film some running at the start of 2024. I filmed some running around the Vietnamese village of Ninh Binh to test it out. But I never quite got around to sorting through the footage, editing it, and making a video.

It’s taken over a year for me to get here with this:

I’ve got a few short runs that I want to film over the next few weeks, around Banana Island, Hoan Kiem Lake, out in Chiang Mai. I’d like to film another video of what it’s like running around Ho Tay at night, as I think that provides a different experience to running in the day. Later in the summer, we’re hoping to get some videos around different parts of Vietnam too – returning to Ninh Binh, but also visiting Sa Pa and Pu Luong nature reserve if we can.

There’s a lot of work involved in trying to find our style, work out what resonates with people, so there’s going to be some trial and error. Also, it takes time trying to keep track of all the different social channels so for now we’re aiming to deliver the following each week:

  • Newsletter – A weekly summary of everything going on with my training and happenings at ultramarathon.life
  • YouTube – A video covering my running, usually anywhere from 2 to 22 minutes long
  • Instagram – A couple of shorts or photos each week, keeping people updated through the week.
  • This Blog – A couple of longer text updates on what’s going on

So that probably works out at around a thing a day. And I know it’s a cliche to say please like and subscribe, but it really does make a difference and it lets us know which medium to concentrate on and where we should direct our efforts.

There’s still so much that I want to get set up and new things to build, but over the next couple of weeks the focus will be on becoming consistent with training and keeping people updated.

And finally, it feels like this is really getting started.
